4:00pm today - Boston Globe conversation on school segregation
Join another step forward in raising this vital & complex conversation - and check out PFP's report and MassINC event video if you missed
The Boston Globe is hosting a conversation at 4:00pm today on school integration. You can register here.
In August 2016, the national school finance think tank EdBuild released a report on the 50 most segregating school borders in America - a striking, visceral set of data honing in on a wide range of social issues with school districts at the center.
A few years later, PFP partnered with EdBuild and with the progressive public opinion firm Change Research to produce a report with a similar analysis for Massachusetts along with pol results from the summers of 2019 and 2020.
The resulting Commonwealth Fault Lines report released in December 2020 was part of a feature Boston Globe Ideas profile on the issue - “Massachusetts’ public schools are highly segregated. It’s time we treated it like the crisis that it is: The Bay State hasn’t demonstrated any real urgency around integration in decades. Millions of students have paid the price.”
The following month, PFP and MassINC hosted a Conversation For Progress on the topic (video here) that featured a productive dialogue with varied perspectives on the complexities of the issue among local and national leaders. Bills were filed in the Massachusetts legislature to create commissions to study the issue and the leading voice in Congress was named HUD Secretary.
Looking forward to the conversation today - register here - more to come!
